Description

The Intruder is a versatile steelhead and salmon streamer built around a long-shank hook, bead head, and marabou tail and wing. It imitates baitfish and leeches and is effective on both Pacific Northwest rivers and Atlantic salmon lochs. The pattern flies through the water with a pulsing, lifelike action and produces in a wide range of conditions, from clear low water to stained spring runoff.

Tying Instructions

  1. 1.

Slide a Nickel Tungsten bead 5/64-inch onto the 3X Long Streamer Hook before securing the hook in the vise, then seat the bead against the eye.

  2. 2.

Start Black 8/0 or 70-denier thread behind the bead and wind a smooth thread base back to the bend.

  3. 3.

Tie in a tight bunch of Black Marabou at the bend for the tail, about 1.5 times the hook eye-to-bend length.

  4. 4.

Wrap thread forward to the bead with firm tension to lock the tail butts along the shank.

  5. 5.

Tie in a second bunch of Black Marabou behind the bead for the wing, matching the tail in length and fullness.

  6. 6.

Sweep the wing fibers back over the tail and secure them with tight wraps directly behind the bead.

  7. 7.

Tie in a pair of Small Silver Bead Chain Eyes behind the bead with figure-eight wraps, then post around the base to tighten them.

  8. 8.

Trim any stray butts, build a neat thread head behind the bead, and whip finish.

  9. 9.

Apply head cement to the thread wraps behind the bead and around the bead-chain eyes.
