Olive Woolly Bugger
Description
The Olive Woolly Bugger is a standard unweighted bugger variant for trout, bass, and panfish. It suggests a leech, small baitfish, dragonfly nymph, or sculpin depending on how it is fished. Use it in rivers and stillwaters when olive is a better match than black or brown.
Materials
- hook: 3X Long Streamer Hook
- thread: Black 6/0 Thread
- head: Black Head Lacquer
- ribbing: Extra-Small Copper Ultra Wire
- body: Olive Chenille
- tail: Olive Marabou
- hackle: Olive Saddle Hackle
Tying Instructions
- 1.
Secure the hook in the vise and start the black thread behind the eye.
- 2.
Wrap a smooth thread base rearward to the bend.
- 3.
Tie in a sparse clump of olive marabou at the bend, about one hook shank long.
- 4.
Secure the copper wire along the near side of the shank and leave it hanging at the bend.
- 5.
Tie in the olive saddle hackle by the tip at the bend with the dull side facing forward.
- 6.
Tie in the olive chenille at the bend and advance the thread to one eye length behind the eye.
- 7.
Wrap the chenille forward in touching turns and tie it off behind the eye.
- 8.
Palmer the olive saddle hackle forward over the chenille in open, even turns and tie it off behind the eye.
- 9.
Counter-wrap the copper wire forward through the hackle to protect the stem and tie it off behind the eye.
- 10.
Build a small tapered thread head.
- 11.
Whip finish and apply black head lacquer.
