Bustard Substitute
WingDescription
Finely-barred wing-quill section used in classic salmon-fly wings to suggest the strong banding of real bustard. Real bustard species (Otididae) are protected; the standard substitute is finely-barred turkey wing, marked with permanent pen if needed to deepen the bars. Choose feathers with crisp, narrow barring rather than mottled blotches.
