Tying Instructions

1. 1.

   Secure the black-japanned salmon hook and lay a smooth thread foundation from behind the eye to the start of the tag, keeping the wing-mounting area level.

2. 2.

   Tie in fine silver thread at the bend, wrap a short silver tag, and follow it with a neat band of lemon floss.

3. 3.

   Mount a golden pheasant crest topping with Indian crow substitute beneath it, setting the tail about one and a half hook gaps long.

4. 4.

   Dub or wrap a compact scarlet wool butt immediately ahead of the tail.

5. 5.

   Tie in the oval silver tinsel and dark claret hackle by their tips at the front of the butt, with the hackle fibers sized to the hook.

6. 6.

   Build a smooth, slightly tapered black floss body forward to the wing-mounting point.

7. 7.

   Wind the dark claret hackle forward in open turns, then counter-wrap the oval silver tinsel over the hackle stem and secure both at the front of the body.

8. 8.

   Wrap the speckled guinea fowl hackle as a sparse throat, sweeping the fibers down and back.

9. 9.

   Build and mount a low underwing of mixed golden pheasant tippet strands with narrow golden pheasant tail strips over them.

10. 10.

    Marry matched left and right wing slips of scarlet, blue, and yellow swan or goose with Florican substitute, bustard substitute, peacock wing, and light mottled turkey, then mount the paired wings together without rolling them.

11. 11.

    Marry narrow slips of barred teal and barred summer duck and set them along the outer faces of the main wing.

12. 12.

    Add narrow matched brown mallard shoulder strips as a roof over the wing.

13. 13.

    Mount a golden pheasant crest topping over the completed wing and trim the waste without disturbing the married slips.

14. 14.

    Form a compact scarlet wool head, whip finish, and apply black head lacquer.
